Retail Therapy

Today was a quieter day. We had a nice walk getting a good look around Notting Hill.  We found the blue door famous in the movie Notting Hill, still did not manage to spot Hugh.

Just around the corner are the Portobello markets which  sell fresh fruit and veg, souvenirs, scarves, umbrellas which were very handy for today as it was pouring with rain.

Following a coffee we then hit the shops.  Although most people know i missed out on the shopping gene in my family, it was quite fun to visit the shops usually we just hear or read about.  We popped into Selfridges, an  equivalent of our David Jones.

Next we had a look at Marks and Spencer, closest equivalent would be Target, and bought a couple of things there for Paul including a shirt and long sleeved teeshirt, and a tee shirt for me.  I also achieved one of my goals for this trip today, and that was to get a Harrods shopping bag, the traditional green and gold, plastic coated/laminated tote bag.  Harrods was an amazing store, particularly the food halls.

It was then time to catch a cab and move to our pretour hotel-a Jurys Inn at Islington, very comfortable.  We met up with the Trafalgar rep, and are now looking forward to starting our tour at 7.30 am tomorrow.

Next major highlight was discovering that Jamies Italian was just down the road, so we ate there.  We tried one of the Planks, which included some different cured meats, some pickles, chillies, olives, and a carrot/beetroot salad with mint. There was baby bocconcini, and another cheese as well. Delicious!
Main was a prawn linguine for me, while Paul tried the Jamie's Italian Burger which he really enjoyed.

After dinner we were lucky enough to catch up with one of Paul's former colleagues at Barossa Council, Phil , who works in local government in Twickenham. Great to see a familiar face!  We did omit to get the usual beer photo of Phil, so we can't show you his face!
